Chemistry New Syllabus for Ordinary Secondary Form I – IV

Chemistry is a compulsory subject for form I-IV students in General Education pathway who choose to join one of the following streams at Ordinary Secondary Education: Science, Agriculture, Food and human nutrition and ICT. However, it is an elective subject to other streams.

This syllabus is designed to guide the teaching and learning of Chemistry for Ordinary Secondary Education Form I–IV in the United Republic of Tanzania. The syllabus interprets the competences indicated in the 2023 Ordinary Secondary Education Curriculum.

It provides information that will enable teachers to plan their teaching process effectively.
It also provides teaching and learning opportunities that guide teachers to apply different methods and strategies to promote students’ scientific and ICT skills and develop 21st century skills which include critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration and problem solving.

Students should be able to glance through the syllabus quickly and get a sense of who is teaching the course, what they will learn from the course, the materials they will need to participate in the course, who they should contact if they need help with an aspect of the course, and what they will have to do to succeed in the course.
